Contests

STARTS JULY 30 – Garmin – “OpenCaching Prove Your Awesomeness”

Prize: Nine (9) prizes will be awarded, consisting of one (1) eTrex 30 handheld GPS for each calendar week of the Sweepstakes Term

ARV: $299.99 each

Rules: http://www8.garmin.com/rules/opencaching-etrex-a-week-sweepstakes.html

The entry process resets after each week – entries submitted during any given week are valid only for that week’s prize drawing

Enter: There are two methods of entry for this Sweepstakes:
-By publishing a new geocache to OpenCaching.com – one (1) entry per approved geocache. Publishing a cache does not automatically constitute a Sweepstakes entry; the user will instead need to check the “Enter me in the Sweepstakes” box when publishing a cache to designate his/her desire to submit a Sweepstakes entry.

– Without publishing caches by submitting an e-mail to geocaching@garmin.com with the subject line stating “Sweepstakes Entry”. Entrants will need to include their age, physical mailing address, and phone number. Only one entry per week is allowed through the e-mail entry method per person. Anyone found to use multiple e-mail accounts to enter in excess of one time per week through the e-mail entry method will be disqualified from all participation in the Sweepstakes

  • So incepit, you want to submit caches to Opencaching using the coordinates of another cachers GC.com caches. People would show up at the cache and sign not realizing that they are actually signing someone else’s cache. Great time saving idea. To make it even more interesting, you could use the real coordinates for someone’s GC.com puzzle caches. LOL

  • I posted this thread about a contest and didnt want it to be a debate about OpenCaching but I thought I should set the record straight about the comment about publishing other peoples caches.
As far Opencaching is concerned when someone publishes a cache on Opencaching that cache is the responsibility of that person and that they are bound by their guidelines.
It doesnt matter if the cache is listed elsewhere, its not Opencaching problem but of the person that is using someone elses work.

  • As for posting other peoples caches, of course I wouldn’t do that. The few caches I do have on OpenCaching are also posted on GC.Com. It’s surprising, I get people logging the find on GC.Com, but never on OC. Of course, I’ve probably found geocaches that were listed on both and not bothered to log it on the other site. I’m not going to bother with the whole GC verus OC thing. Each can do as they want, I’ll suscribe to whichever I want, and that’s that. Of course, if Garmin was to offer a GPS that I was genuinly interested in, I’d probably submit some of my own caches, but I have no interest in trying to win a GPS I wouldn’t use, just to say I won it.
